Leadership roles
- From January 2013 I have served as Chair of the Macquarie Research Fellowships (MQRF) Panel, which selects and awards 3 year Fellowships to 6 applicants each year. In 2012 I was Deputy Chair and part of a Panel Executive including myself, the then Chair and a second Deputy Chair. In these roles I have liaised with the Research Office, Associate Deans of Research and Faculty Research Managers; led the rewriting of the Funding Rules and Report Forms; led the development of Discipline Norms for use during assessment; contributed to negotiations with Warrawara, Macquarie’s Department of Indigenous Studies regarding the MQRF-Indigenous aspect of the Scheme; presented three Information Sessions (for the Expression of Interest stage in 2012 and 2013, and for the Full Proposal stage in 2013); and made decisions around applicant eligibility, feedback to applicants and recommendations about effective and efficient running of the Scheme.
- As Chair of the MQRF Panel, in February 2014 I was invited to participate in a review of Macquarie internal funding schemes (part of the University’s Framing of Futures initiatives).
- In 2010 I developed a Women’s Peer Mentoring Scheme in the Faculty of Human Sciences.
Faculty/University representative - In February 2014 I was invited to assist the Faculty of Human Sciences in developing Research Themes (via Research Themes Workshops), one outcome of the Festival of IDEAS. I am named in at least three of these Research Themes as a leading researcher.
- In November 2013 I was invited by Macquarie’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) to attend his “Festival of IDEAS”, “three, one-day workshops each featuring 100 of Macquarie University’s best and brightest thinkers, strategisers, visionaries, and leaders”.
- In April 2013 I was invited by the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences to attend an “Our University: A Framing of Futures consultation session”, a “Blue Sky” event aimed at developing “a compelling, coherent, sustainable, long-term direction, vision and values for Macquarie University”.
- In 2010 and 2012 I was the “Field of Research Champion” for Discipline Area 17 (Psychology and Cognitive Science) during the ARC’s Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) research quality evaluation exercise. I helped to advise on the processing and interpretation of citation data and wrote the ERA Background Statement to accompany Macquarie’s submission for Cognitive Science and Psychology, which in 2010 received the maximum possible ranking of “5” for 2 digit code; “5” for Cognitive Science and “4” for Psychology.
Contributions to committees - From 2011 I have served as Member of the MQRF Panel (and as Deputy Chair in 2012 and Chair from 2013, as noted above). Each year I have assessed approximately 130 applications in the Expression of Interest stage and 30 applications in the Full Proposal stage. The workload equates to approximately 4 weeks full-time per year.
- In 2010 I served as Departmental representative to Faculty of Human Sciences’ Research Sub-Committee. In this role I attended meetings, contributed to policy and promotion of research, served on smaller panels for Faculty funding schemes, prepared information for the Sub-Committee and reported back to my Department, and Chaired one meeting in the absence of the Associate Dean Research.
